The Shoes Come First (A Jennifer Cloud Novel) by Janet Leigh

In Sunnyside, Texas, Jennifer Cloud is an assistant purchasing manager for an upscale shoe store. But after her boss is arrested, she’s forced to find work elsewhere and ends up in her brother’s chiropractic office, where she discovers a hidden passion for helping others.

However, when she receives an unexpected birthday gift from her aunt that transports her back in time to 1568 Scotland, she meets a dashing Scottish outlaw who introduces her to a world of time-traveling keys. But on a return trip to the past, Jennifer’s key is stolen by a villainous band of time travelers who will stop at nothing to collect all of the keys for themselves. When Jennifer attempts to retrieve the key and sees her cousin kidnapped, she enlists a dysfunctional cast of characters—including a few interested suitors—to help her find the key and rescue her cousin.

Inspired by the works of Janet Evanovich and Beth Ciotta and carefully researched, The Shoes Come First is a lighthearted, historical fantasy filled with time travel, suspense, and romance that’s sure to please.

Book 1 of the Jennifer Cloud Series

Our review…  5*

What do time travel, Scottish hunks, and alpha race car drivers have in common? This book is a wonderful collection of characters and crosses several genres, including chick lit, time travel, and adventure. While there are romantic elements, this doesn’t quite fit the mold for romantic fiction, but once I got to know the characters, I didn’t care. I look forward to further adventures from Jennifer Cloud.

The Trouble With Dying by Maggie Le Page

When Faith Carson wakes up on a hospital ceiling looking down on her body in a coma, it’s a bad start to the week. A very bad start. She has no idea who she is or how she got there or why, and the biggest mystery of all is why she married the schmuck who wants her ventilator switched off.

As if that’s not enough Faith has a dead gran haunting her, a young daughter missing her, and one devilishly delicious man making her wish she could have a second chance at life. And maybe she can, if she finds a way back into her body and wakes up by Friday. But if she doesn’t, this will be her last bad week—ever.

Nate Sutherland decided long ago he’d settle for friendship if he couldn’t have Faith’s heart. But now, as she nears death, he’s going to have to listen to his feelings in a whole new way—and act. Because if he doesn’t, this week will be the worst damn week of his life. He’ll lose everything he’s ever loved.
